AI Center Tra Vinh student team won first prize at ASEAN AI Challenge 2025 with their AI system for detecting crop diseases using drones.
On November 5, 2025, the final round of ASEAN AI Challenge 2025 was held in Singapore with participation from 50 teams from 10 ASEAN countries. AI CenterTra Vinh student team excellently defeated all opponents to win first prize.
The winning project of the student team includes:
• Members: Le Minh Tuan (team leader), Nguyen Thi Hoa, Tran Van Duc, Pham Thi Lan • Supervisors: Dr. Le Thi Mai and Mr. Tran Van Hung • Project: 'SmartFarm AI' - AI system for detecting crop diseases using drones • Technologies used: Computer Vision, Deep Learning, IoT, and Mobile App
The SmartFarm AI system operates by:
1. Using drones to fly around fields and take photos of crops 2. AI analyzes images to detect early signs of pests and diseases 3. Generating heat maps showing disease severity levels 4. Sending real-time alerts to farmers' smartphones 5. Recommending appropriate treatment plans
The 100,000 USD prize will be used to further develop the system and conduct pilot testing in Mekong Delta provinces in 2026.
